Abstract
Nina Paley's audacious animated feature, Sita Sings the Blues , was produced with a crew of one. Winner of a Jury Special Mention at the Berlinale, the film defies established conventions of the movie business: self-produced, self-animated, no imposed "development," and absolutely no committee decisions. Here Paley discusses her production process from inspiration through final output to 35mm film. She also surveys a variety of Flash animation techniques, including cut-out, collage, rotoscope, and hand-drawing via Cintiq tablet. Catch a screening of all 82 minutes of Sita at the Stuttgart Trickfilm festival, and bring your questions!
