Abstract

Flash video is everywhere!

Flash Video is getting bigger and bigger these days and is therefore available on many devices like PC/MAC, cell phones or even game consoles. Marcel shows some examples on various devices both for on-demand and live streaming, and gives some insight in slot3's encoding processes and workflows and how Adobe Flex offers new possibilities.

Here's a brief overview of what I'll talk about:

• - Video on Demand, using HTTP and why we think it's better. I'll show some cool h.264 demos as well.
• - Live broadcasting for both VP6 and h.264. (Maybe with a few special features ;))
• - The video encoding engine we use for as well our clients and our daily work, + a little sneek preview of our upcoming flex interface for controlling it.
• - (Flash) video on several other devices
• - Copy protection, of what we think is the only way to do it properly

Bio

Coming from the furniture business, Marcel made his first steps in web development in 1998, doing some small websites in HTML. In a time where he was very proud of his „JavaScript MouseOvers“, he discovered Macromedia Flash 4 and soon got addicted by it's possibilties.

During the next years he worked as web developer for a small IT service provider in the Ruhr Area where he produced websites like atb-music.com, patric-la-funk.com or various projects for Deutsche Telekom AG.

In 2006 he decided after many years to quit his job to work as a freelancer for his existing clients. Since then, together with the Agency Gedankenwerk, he has produced projects for Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile, T-Home, and T-Systems, both as developer and project manager. During this time he got more and more involved in online video technologies, mainly Flash Video. He was one of the key players in building the Flash-based Streaming environment for Telekom and the powerful CDN behind it.

In 2007 he started slot3, a full-service provider focused on high-end video streaming and encoding technologies on various devices like the Flash Player, Flash Lite 3, Playstation 3 or Apple's iPhone.
