Abstract

Internationally famous and influential techno music artist and DJ Richie Hawtin (a.k.a. Plastikman) founded his Minus imprint in 1998.  It began as an inverse to the sound that he and Plus8 co-founder and co-visionary John Acquaviva made famous around the world in the early days of a new music culture.

What began in 1998 as an outlet for new, experimental and stripped-down minimal techno music has grown and evolved into a family of music and media artists that embrace new technology and repurposes traditional technology in new and dynamic ways.  The label continues to receive international acclaim and is one of the top-selling techno music labels worldwide.

Jonathan Coe and Sebastian Locker will present the evolution of the moving visual and interactive experience of Minus.  They will explain how the sound design, aesthetic, motion design, music and all-hours dance events around the world are connected.  They will discuss the integration of multi-disciplinary creative processes (both audio and visual), using different tools (such as Abelton Live, Adobe After Effects, Apple Motion and Adobe Flash) and working across time zones to create the Minus experience.

You will leave this presentation with insights in how to work in an interdisciplinary way to achieve a creative vision, how audio, video, design and interactivity work to build a brand.
