8th flashconference ® May 05 - 06 / 2006 +++ blog space
+++ THU Jun 02, 10.15am
Greez from the outer space ;-) I'm sitting in a 27° surrounding reading about Germany's late winter... oh guys! Edith takes her motorscooter to go to work in MUC... unbelievable! Rich wrote, he's afraid Germany will win the soccer world cup... because all other teams will freeze! But there are good news: David Riedel lauchned his new website: http://www.a2-17.com/ ..::::... check it out!
+++ TUE Jun May 30, 11.45pm
wow! I visited the flashforward website right now and ... saw Mario's workshop on their program! Congratulations!!! He will speak about Mashup Baby... and it seems that one can see some more insides of his ideas on existing Website API's ... like what he presented with his Islands Of Consciousness workshop on this year's flashconference ...
+++ SUN May 28, 5.30pm
Folks! don't wonder, that there's no daily new flash here ;-) I'm preparing my next trip right now... and if you would like to join me ... check your luggage! I can tell you that there's so bad weather here! Anyway I expect 30° soon ... and I'll give you some impressions ;-)
+++ FRI May 26, 9.05am
A new contact dropped in ... from Bollywood ... and I hope we'll do something together next year! Cross your fingers!!!
+++ THU May 25, 11.37pm
CDV blogs on their website about their nomination of "war front" for the realtime film festival: "Tamás Fodor, Digital Reality: 'We are proud of this nomination, which shows that our e fforts are appreciated. We can produce top notch cut-scenes and trailers — which is a must today — in our own rendering studio. In War Front, these scenes serve to support the alternative historical and Hollywood-ready story.That's why we set a new benchmark in the strategy genre'."
+++ MON May 22, 11.44pm
Some wondered about the font of the fmx website - it's cool and today I found it: it is tripleX bold ;-)
+++ SUN May 20, 12.05pm
Marc Thiele - well known in the flash scene wrote: "Unfortunately i could only attend and enjoy one day, since i was very
busy.
Overall it was great though. The workshops were not extremely
technical,
the things holger and mario presented were very inspiring without
diving
into technicalities.
I'm going to comment on that in my blog.
Perhaps i'll be there a little bit longer next year." ... and I hope this will come true ;-)
+++ SUN May 20, 11.50am
Frederik Ring feed-backed that way: "I found the flash conference program to be well balanced between technical and creative content. It was a shame that Nina Paley's presentation took place at the same time as 2minutes' presentation – making it impossible to join both of them. Next year, everything related to flash should take place at the flash conference and should be more intensively linked to the real-time film festival."
+++ SUN May 20, 3.30am
Benjamin Herholz - who performed together with Sven Loskill for the well know German Agency "Jung von Matt" about his impressions... wow that's a long version ;-)
"
The flashconference was excellent and fun. As to the integration into
the fmx I can only say, they are one thing! And it looked very
professinal. In general I feel like the flashconference makes perfect sense as a
part of the fmx, given that the flash world transformed from a shadow
existence for simple animation to a complete package for digital
content and ideas.
In my opinion: what we can see happening now, integration of video,
interactive television, multimedia installation, and more is just the
beginning. I am very anxious and excited on what will happen.
The program was extremely interesting, the visitors were absolutely
amazing, especially the contacts one could make:
from nvidia
chiefcoder, a sony entertainment filmprofessional up to a ibm digital media
employee from Taiwan.
It's a slightly different world than ours. And that's exactly why it was so delightfull. I found very interesting, how the flash platform is slowly being respected more and more by renowned pros from other areas of the field (postproduction, visual effects,...). it's not a small toy for designers any more, and I'm really glad about that. I would have expected more
pittyfull smirks."
THX a lot for your feedback Ben!
+++ SUN May 20, 0.22 am
Marcel Fahle sent me the following feedback: "I had so much fun, the organization was perfect and the location
unique. Unfortunately i was not able to attend all the workshops, since I met
so many old friends - there was a lot to talk about. But the workshops I
did see, were top notch! Overall - compliments for you, the team, the nice girls and all the
others! No question - we'll be there next year!" - thx a lot ... I'm sure we'll apreciate it!!!
+++ SAT May 19, 4.30 am
The flashconference recap is now online - download doc or pdf
+++ FRI May 18, 10.30 pm
Gary wrote me from Canada - he uploaded his flashconference files to his website and wrote: "Personally, I wanted to thank you for inviting me. I remember reading
your original email and wondering... is this guy was for real? Lucky
for me, you were (...) I was (...) utterly mentally energized
from all the people I met, the city of Stuttgart, the culture and just
finding myself on the other side of the world. The conference really treated me well. I loved being in Europe. It was great to walk around the city and drink it all in. The mix at the conference was totally inspiring. I thrive on people who
are intense in their work. People who love their work produce great
work. I go to these events to see, listen, talk and most importantly,
be inspired by the best out there. How could you not be inspired?" ... and be sure that I want him again in Stuttgart next year!
+++ WED May 17, 6 pm
Oh folks I'm really tired ... but anyway - John Mamais from aconygames and member of the realtime film festival jury on the fmx, where I was in the role as head of program - ... ok he answered on my idea to specify the flash category into interactive and non-interactive entries: "I was actually partial to the interactive entry which
imo
is the strength of using Flash for animation. You could split the
category
to interactive and non-interactive." I'll think over that ...
and I'll have a lake-tour around munich tonight ... going to the Ammersee and Starnberger See-you ;-)
+++ TUE May 16, 11.59 pm
... guess what: the project crew girls took me to the cinema for mission impossible tonight ... screaming around me * ;-) * and ... be sure ... they have some really cool visual effects... it's worth to cry ... uuups try ... and if you'd like to be a hero ... invite the girl(s) you want to rescue ;-) *g (... this is only the begin of my first film project's storyline ;-)
+++ MON May 15, 11.30 pm
Mario Klingemann wrote "The flash conference was a lot of fun once again (...) I thought the choice of speakers was outstanding, and the workshops overall were very productive; there was everything from keyframe animation to hardcore coding. All of the sessions I attended were most interesting and smoothly presented by the speakers".
+++ SUN May 14, 04.22 pm
Hermes - nominee for the realtime film festival / categroy flash - from Italy wrote: "the flashconference/fmx was a big surpirse for me. All was fantastic! In Italy there's no festival like this. Thank you for all and see you next year!"
+++ SAT May 13, 11.15 am
Jens France blogged his impressions on the flashconference and fmx - check it out here
+++ SAT May 13, 6.30am
David Riedel - winner of the realtime film festival 06 in the category "machinima": "I regret attending the fmx only one day. I watched 4 very interesting
presentations on realtime. The program is superb, however i would have
liked more screenings, actually i would have appreciated full length
screenings even non-cut.
The people were extremely nice, to be honest: every single one i met!
Additionally one was able to make great contacts and network. The award ceremony could have been attended better, but I must admit, overall I
really enjoyed it. I thought it was really exciting and I will
definitely drop in next year."
+++ FRi May 12, 11.05 pm
Patrick from Pixar wrote, that he's back and will talk to his colleagues for the 20 years of animation exhibition... coming to Stuttgart ... cross your fingers!
+++ THU May 11, 10.49 pm
Karin Wehn - Realtime Film Festival Jury Member wrote: "I was very impressed with this year's fmx at which I heard many interesting presentations and novel ideas. I really hope to be part of next year’s fmx!" ("Ich war insgesamt sehr sehr angetan von der FMX und habe dort viele
interessante
Vorträge gehört und Anregungen erhalten und wäre gerne im nächsten Jahr
wieder
mit von der Partie")
+++ THU May 11, 2.11 pm
Nina Paley wrote me a feedback ... read here: "FMX was the best-organized event I've ever attended (...)I think FMX was
the first conference - as opposed to just festival - I've attended, and
I much preferred it. Everyone I met was deeply engaged in the
creative/film/animation/effects world, and the interactions were more
meaningful than I've had at festivals, where most attendees are
spectators and only a few are "stars." I enjoyed the broad scope of FMX
presentation topics, which exposed me to new ideas and people. Before
the FlashConference I didn't think I (as a more traditional animator)
had anything to offer to the larger community of Flash users, let alone
VFX artists, but it turns out I did."
+++ THU May 11, 0.40 am
